The Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association was established in 1982. It is a membership-based organisation open to all.

The principle aims of the IFOGA are:-

1. To formulate standards that determine organic produce.
2. To certify the produce of those who request inspection and meet those standards.
3. To award an Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association Symbol to such certified produce.
4. To approve agricultural produce classified as organic by other bodies by awarding an Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association Symbol.
5. To provide a means of contact and interaction between members.
6. To encourage education and research so that improved methods of organic production can be adopted and implemented.
7. To aid with the marketing and the promotion of organic food in Ireland.
