Salmon Feeds - Ire The most comprehensive range of diets is available to suit all needs whatever the objectives of the salmon farmer, from low-volume speciality diets for fry and smolts to high-volume on-growing feeds. Over the years, we have demonstrated a commitment to the requirements of the industry with an underlying drive to deliver the lowest feed cost per kilo growth for a given flesh quality.

Fry Feed – Starting Out

Nutra ST is our latest range of starter feeds for salmon which uses new agglomeration production technology and an advanced formulation to ensure excellent performance. Nutra ST is highly palatable and heat-sensitive nutrients are unharmed leading to a high degree of feed digestibility and nutrient value. Fry will establish very quickly onto Nutra ST and will grow rapidly exhibiting high survival. Nutra ST is free-flowing, dust-free and without free-oil which leads to excellent dispensing from feeders, no oil film on the water surface and a clean water column.

Nutra ST is available in 4 successive particle sizes as is suitable for first-feeders up to 7-10 grammes. Nutra ST has also been formulated to AminoBalanceTM principles ensuring that all essential digestible amino acids are supplied in exactly the correct amounts. The use of Nutra ST feeds will promote rapid fry growth and excellent survival.

Nutra Fry is a complete range in five successive sizes of crumb suitable for salmon fry from first-feeding to pre-smolt size. NutraFry fully exploits the salmon's growth potential during the critical early stages and achieves this through a combination of top-quality ingredients, essential nutrients and superbly physical quality.

Nutra Fry has a high digestible protein and energy content in size-dependent ratios which allow maximum growth performance. The primary protein source is LT Quality fishmeal especially selected for its low ash content which ensures a low phosphorus level in the feed. Nutra Fry has also been formulated to AminoBalanceTM principles ensuring that all essential digestible amino acids are supplied in exactly the correct amounts.

Nutra Fry crumbs are designed to be clean and dust-free with high water stability and a slow rate of sinking. The use of Nutra Fry feeds will promote rapid fry growth and excellent smolt quality.

Freshwater Smolt Feed - Stage two in the feeding chain

Nutra Parr is a range of extruded mini-pellets in three successive sizes for young salmon. Nutra Parr is very clean and dust-free dispensing well from automatic feeders and is slow-sinking allowing fish the best opportunity to take pellets while suspended in the water column. The use of Nutra Parr will allow a smooth transition from starter feeds such as Nutra Fry or ST to larger extruded pellets such as:

Nutra Smolt is a pelleted feed available in one key size and has been designed specifically to maintain and extend the excellent performance in fresh water delivered by Nutra ST and Nutra Fry crumbs.

Nutra Smolt is formulated with highly palatable and digestible LT Quality fishmeals which are also low-ash and low in phosphorus to minimise environmental impact. Nutra Smolt is formulated to AminoBalanceTM principles with a balanced DP/DE profile and is very slow sinking which results in good feed distribution in the water. These combined attributes ensure rapid smolt growth and excellent smolt quality.

Nutra Transfer has been specifically formulated to prepare smolts for sea water transfer. Nutra Transfer retains a high DP/DE profile in order to maintain good growth which produces high levels of circulating growth hormones essential to good seawater adaptation. Levels of other specific ingredients have been boosted in order to promote those physiological changes in the gills which assist with seawater transfer. Nutra Transfer is available in one key pellet size and is designed to be fed to smolts approximately 6 weeks before seawater transfer. Nutra Transfer will ensure excellent smolt quality and survival post-transfer.

Seawater Feeds
All our seawater diets are now formulated with regard to the level of digestible Amino Acids. This diet is part of Nutreco Aquacultures revolutionary new formulation system that will gradually lead towards a new way of expressing dietary requirements.

By applying the first stages of the Amino Balance principles Skretting is able to produce a cost effective diet that will not sacrifice growth or FCR. Amino Acid levels are balanced to ensure the most effective use of digestible levels. Extensive research into raw material composition and fish requirements have been undertaken by Nutreco Aquaculture. These diets have gradually been introduced to all the major salmon farming countries across the world. Ireland is now following on from their experiences and has designed this diet, on the Amino Balance principles.


Seawater Smolt Feeds – Stage three in the cycle

Smolt 30, Smolt 60 is the seawater feed for salmon smolts based upon leading-edge research from Nutreco’s Aquaculture Research Centre. This diet is formulated to promote a rapid return to feeding once the smolts are transferred to sea. It contains a variety of fishmeals and amino acid sources to ensure a well balanced diet that meets all of the requirements of a newly transferred smolt. In order to promote good health it is produced with a high level of vitamins and minerals. This will ensure that the stress of transfer will be quickly overcome. New knowledge of the smolt's requirements for digestible protein and amino acids has been implemented to ensure that each feed size meets the nutritional needs of smolts in specific size ranges. Smolt Diets are specifically formulated to suit the high requirements for digestible protein and certain micro-nutrients of smolts from seawater input up to around September.

Once the smolts have settled down it is important to supply them with sufficient nutrients to capitalise on rising spring temperatures and increasing growth rate. To promote fast growth, while supplying an increased level of nutrient requirement this diet is balanced with a high protein content and moderate oil.

On-Growing Feeds – The last links in the feeding chain

The Atlantic Grower range is formulated to produce consistent growth. The base diet Atlantic 30 has proven consistent in producing excellent growth, low FCR’s and low fat levels in the flesh. The Atlantic 33 will produce faster growth and reduced FCR’s when fed as part of a managed feeding strategy.

Atlantic diets are specified to produce excellent growth with very low feed costs per kilo fish growth.

Anti-Stress Diets

Response Xtra diets for salmon are specially formulated to capitalise upon the immune-system supporting effects of specific feed ingredients pioneered by Skretting. Both small-scale and commercial-scale trials have demonstrated the cost-benefits of using Response Xtra as part of a planned feeding regime. Available as a complete range of pellets to be used during periods of stressful activities e.g. pre – post grading and throughout periods of stressful environmental conditions e.g summer.

Broodstock Feed

Atlantic Brood is a special formulation for broodstock salmon. The highest quality ingredients are employed plus special supplementation with those essential vitamins and other micro-nutrients necessary for the production of high quality eggs and milt. The benefits deriving from such close attention to ingredient quality and micro-ingredient supplementation are highly productive brood salmon and excellent egg/fry survival.

Organic Feed

Our Nutra Fry Green, Smolt Green, and Atlantic Green are successive ranges of salmon diets which have been designed specifically to follow the Naturland, IOFGA and Ecocert standards for Organic Food and Farming. Our production site at Westport has been fully audited by all organisations and certified for organic production of these diets
