The IFA say they will hold Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith to the commitment he made to the sheep sector in Limoges. Chairman of the IFA National Sheep Committee Henry Burns said he will hold Minister Smith to the comments he made at the Limoges Sheep Conference, when the Minister categorically stated, “the sector should be a priority for any unused funds within the CAP budget”. |

Mr Michael Silke, Vice President of IFA Connacht, made a presentation yesterday to the EU Commission outlining the inequitable implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) in Ireland. The IFA especially emphasised the unfair and excessive water charges set for Irish farmers. |

Protestors have spent more than six days and five nights camped down outside the Department of Agriculture in a bid to secure the unspent CAP Single Payment funds for the sheep sector. IFA President Padraig Walshe says the resolve of sheep farmers to get what they are looking for is stronger than ever. |
