Kerry Goup have today announced their plans to purchase Breeo Foods Ltd. for €165million.  Breeo which is a subsidiary of Reox Holdings PLC, includes brands such as Dairygold, Galtee rashers and sausages, Mitchelstown cheese, Shaw’s cooked meats, Calvita and Sno yogurts.

Kerry said that the deal also includes Breeo Foods' chilled distribution service, which also complements its' own chilled food offering.  However, the deal cannot proceed until approval is granted by the competitions authority.

Mr Frank Hayes, Kerry Group spokesman said "We want to grow the business over the coming years.  We are acquiring some household brands, which we will continue to grow."

With the Dairygold brand and name under control of the Kerry group, farmers claim that confusion will arise between the brand and Dairygold.  Dairygold shareholder and Mitchelstown based farmer, Councilor Liam O'Doherty remarked, "It's very disappointing to see a brand that was grown by generations of farmers being sold out.  There needs to be clarity as to what will happen the Dairygold name".
