Following a national pig farmers meeting in Portlaoise on Tuesday the president of the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) John Bryan said the delay in introducing country-of-origin labelling undermines local producers and is misleading consumers.

Agriculture minister Brendan Smith has reminded farmers to consider if they need a nitrates derogation for the current year. The Minister advised that details of the derogation process are available on the Department's website. In addition farmers will be able to get forms in their local District Veterinary Office or from the Department's Nitrates Section, Johnstown Castle, Wexford.

Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith has informed dairy farmers that a list of facilitators available to form and manage discussion groups under the Dairy Efficiency Programme is available from Co-operatives/Dairies and on the website of the Department of Agriculture.
