IFA President Padraig Walshe has said the main things Ireland should push for in the CAP Health Check are no modulation cuts to the Single Farm Payment, a lightening of the milk quota restrictions for Irish dairy farmers and a €30 per ewe sheep maintenance payment.

The Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith has spoken to Commissioner Fischer Boel to make known his serious concern about the current weakness in dairy product prices. The Minister urged the Commissioner to establish early supports for the sector in order to rebuild confidence and put a floor under current market prices. Minister Smith called on the Commissioner to act decisively and bring in appropriate measures at the earliest possible time.

Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith is travelled to the United States on the weekend with Enterprise Ireland to promote Ireland's Food Investment and Innovation Strategy. The goal of the trip was to meet with various business leaders from different Irish and US food companies, including US companies with a significant presence in Ireland.
